The Military Wives Choir Joins Our Fundraising Gala

We are thrilled to announce that the talented Plymouth Military Wives Choir will be gracing the stage at our fundraising gala in September with their beautiful and unique voices. These inspirational women from military families will weave a tapestry of uplifting music, creating an unforgettable atmosphere.

The Military Wives Choir is a registered charity and network of 75 choirs in British military bases across the UK and overseas, bringing women in the military community closer together through music.

With over 2,200 members, the MWC network is multi-service (Royal Navy, Royal Marines, British Army, Royal Air Force), and any woman with a military connection can join, including current serving, veterans, mothers, sisters, and daughters. Thus, the network empowers women from across the military community.

Well-known choirmaster Gareth Malone formed the Military Wives Choir at the Royal Marines base in Chivenor as part of the fourth BBC/Twenty Twenty television series entitled The Choir: Military Wives. The choir aimed to help the wives and girlfriends of service members formerly deployed to Afghanistan express themselves through song.

As the series progressed, Malone led the Chivenor group to perform locally at the nearby town of Barnstaple, and then, alongside the choir formed at the Royal Citadel, Plymouth, at a passing out dinner at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and Armed Forces Day celebrations in Plymouth.

The television series' climax was their performance of Wherever You Are at The Royal British Legion's Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall on 12 November 2011, in the presence of the late HM The Queen.

The Plymouth Military Wives Choir has a varied repertoire and core music for all choirs. When requested, it regularly attends local and regional events to support communities and charities. Now part of the Military Wives Choir Foundation, money raised also supports the establishment of future choirs to help ladies when they need it most.

Early bird tickets for the gala are now available until the end of May at a discounted price of £75 (£25 saving). Call Lyanne on 0800 021 3101 to book directly or secure your place via our Eventbrite listing by clicking here (booking fee applicable).
